Agility right from the start!

A webinar with with Emelie Johnson Vegh October 18, 2022

Let’s talk about agility right from the start! Agility is a complex and fast sport. Foundation skills form the base of your agility career and will be valuable not only in the beginning of your training but throughout said career.

Emelie will be sharing the basics of clever clicker training for agility, discussed in the book Agility Right From the Start that she authored together with Eva Bertilsson (her partner in the collaboration Carpe Momentum). And you, the handler, are not forgotten in this either! Dog training is always about your skills too.

Even if this webinar will have agility as its focus, the thoughts about strategies, offered behavior, training session structures and what foundation skills actually are, are valuable for all venues.

Emelie Johnson Vegh (she/her) works in the collaboration Carpe Momentum together with Eva Bertilsson. Their goal is to help people acquire knowledge and skills by using science-based, modern, humane and empowering teaching strategies for the benefit of learners of all species. Within Carpe Momentum Emelie teaches on the general principles of behavior and learning, coaching trainers in the skill of creating great training sessions regardless of venue or species. Emelie also coaches people in building “sustainable habits” using  for example running and dog trainer skills as ways to approach the topic.

Emelie has a degree in education; she is a high school teacher in Swedish and English (both language studies and literature) and added to her degree with further studies of both linguistics and children’s literature. She writes fiction for adults and has also published a series of children’s books with some focus on positive reinforcement training. She works as a translator and editor, reveling in finding ways to tell stories and make information available to a great many people. Together with Eva, she published the book Agility Right from the Start (Sunshine Books, 2010). The book outlines the colleagues’ philosophy and structured approach to training, making it a worthy read not only for agility enthusiasts. Emelie has been part of the Clicker Expo faculty for many years, teaching together with Eva. “E&E” also introduced TAGteach to Scandinavia in 2005 and were the first European TAGteach faculty.

Emelie lives with her husband, their three children and two dogs in Malmö in the southern parts of Sweden. She enjoys many different sports and finding ways of breaking them down and teaching them to others, both adults and children. Her goal is to make learning accessible, interesting and fun! As a dog trainer, Emelie has experience from a variety of venues and has competed in various dog sports with several dogs of various breeds. Currently, she’s working with her young field golden retriever Tessa, getting her ready for a number of different sports.
